Crockpot cooking: The Good And The Bad Side

You will not find a more convenient as well as easy to use cooking appliance than the crockpot cooker which has a number of time saving features that will help prepare sumptuous and delicious meals albeit in spite of a few minor drawbacks. Crockpot cooking does have very many advantages though there are a few features to it that are not so good for the average cook that include needing to roast large cuts of meat rather than cook them in a crockpot. In addition, crockpot cooking may not be so suitable when you want to prepare a fish dish and is more conducive to stews as well as chowders.

Minor Drawbacks

Another less than desirable aspect of crockpot cooking is that it will result in collecting many juices due to the fact that steam cannot easily escape whilst cooking, thus resulting in juices becoming watery as well as diluted that in turn does the flavoring no good at all. It is also possible to overcook your dish; more so, in the case of poultry as well as tender meats.

Though crockpot cooking is wonderful, one does have to put up with such minor drawbacks that however pale in comparison to the many advantages such as not having to do any real tending while cooking, which allows you time to do other things whilst your meal is being cooked. Crockpot cooking is also wonderful for making tender your tough cuts of meat and you will relish the stews that you can cook and the best thing about crockpot cooking is that you need not be present in the kitchen all the time. You will very rarely end up burning your food because of the convenience with which crockpot cooking allows you to cook up dishes without their sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Even though there are extremely few instances of having a bad experience with your crockpot cooking one must still take a few precautions that will help you cook better and safer. Make sure that everything is very clean including the cooker, utensils as well as work area. Handle ingredients in a safe and careful manner, defrost meats as well as poultry ahead of placing them in the crockpot, cut your food into small chunks which will ensure that you food is cooked in a thorough manner, and always let the lid stay on which can cut as many as twenty minutes in cooking time.

Following these simple steps should help you in your crockpot cooking, which in spite of the few drawbacks, will still prove to be a very effective means of cooking most of your food preparations.
